SuccessMate's Attendance Calculator helps Indian college students instantly check their attendance percentage, know exactly how many classes they can safely bunk, and find out how many consecutive classes they must attend to recover from a shortage. The tool supports all major Indian university rules — VTU, Anna University, VIT, SRM, KLU, JNTU, Pune University, Mumbai University, and more. Most Indian colleges follow the UGC-recommended 75% minimum attendance rule for exam eligibility.
Attendance Percentage Formula
Attendance % = (Classes Attended ÷ Total Classes Conducted) × 100. Example: Attended 80 out of 120 classes = (80/120) × 100 = 66.7%. This is below 75% — you need to attend the next several classes consecutively to recover. Use the Multi-Subject Tracker to monitor all your subjects together and identify which subject is most at risk before exams.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 75% attendance rule in India? ▾
The UGC (University Grants Commission) recommends a minimum 75% attendance for students to be eligible to appear in semester examinations. If your total classes in a semester are 120, you must attend at least 90 of them (120 × 75% = 90). Miss more than 30, and most colleges will detain you from exams. Some colleges set higher requirements — 80% (BITS Pilani, DU), or even 85% (medical colleges). Always confirm with your institution's handbook.
How many classes can I bunk and still stay above 75%? ▾
Formula: Maximum classes you can miss = Total classes − (75% × Total classes). Example: 120 total classes → must attend 90 → can miss 30. But if you've already missed some, use this calculator which factors in your current attendance. Note: 74.9% is NOT 75%. Always aim for at least 76–77% as a buffer against rounding.
How many classes must I attend to recover from shortage? ▾
If you're below 75%, you need to attend consecutive classes until your percentage crosses the threshold. Formula: Classes needed = (Required% × Total − Attended) ÷ (1 − Required%). Example: Attended 50 of 80 classes (62.5%), need 75%: need = (0.75×80 − 50) ÷ (1−0.75) = (60−50)÷0.25 = 40 consecutive classes. This calculator shows this instantly.
Does medical leave count as attendance? ▾
It depends on your college policy. Most colleges have a "condonation" clause — medical leave of up to 10% may reduce the required attendance (e.g., from 75% to 65%) instead of counting as absent. You must apply with a medical certificate and doctor's prescription within 3 days of returning. Enter your medical leave days in this calculator to see the adjusted requirement.
Should I calculate attendance per subject or overall? ▾
Most Indian universities (VTU, Anna, KLU, JNTU) calculate and enforce attendance PER SUBJECT — not as an overall average. You could have 85% overall but be detained in Physics if you have only 68% there. Always use the Multi-Subject Tracker to check each subject individually. The "weakest subject" is always the one to focus on first.
What happens if my attendance is below 75%? ▾
Consequences of falling below the required attendance: (1) Detained from semester exams — you cannot appear without special permission. (2) Internal marks deducted — many colleges deduct marks from CIE/internal assessment. (3) Condonation application required — you must apply to the dean/principal with valid proof (medical/NCC/NSS). (4) Year drop risk — repeated shortage may lead to year back in some universities. (5) Scholarship cancellation — government and merit scholarships often require maintaining minimum attendance.
